Urology

    Overview

Urology focuses on the medical and surgical treatment of the male genitourinary system, female urinary tract, and the adrenal gland. Urologists treat patients with kidney, ureter, bladder, prostate, urethra, and male genital structure disorders and injuries. They often coordinate care with nephrologists for patients with kidney disease and may perform kidney transplantations. Urologists may also investigate and treat infertility and male sexual dysfunction. Diagnostic procedures are very important for urologists. They use endoscopic, percutaneous, and open surgery to treat congenital and acquired disorders of the reproductive and urinary systems and related structures. These specialists see male and female patients of all ages and work in both hospital and clinic settings.

New medical procedures for enlarged prostate

As our doctors are continually teaching medical students, they are aware of the latest research and developments in procedures, treatments and technologies for urology patients. As one of the first organizations to use Rezum water vapor therapy, we use new technology to treat benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), or an enlarged prostate. Water vapor therapy is a natural alternative to surgery. With just a few drops pf water, your urologist can shrink the prostate, allowing urine to flow freely. This quick, in-office procedure does not require general anesthesia or any incisions, and most patients can return to regular activity within a few days. Water vapor therapy also preserves sexual function.

Greenlight laser vaporization can also be used to treat an enlarged prostate. We also have an office-based procedure that can helps ease urine flow, called UroLift.
